I recently came across an article on diversityQ that confirmed my instinctual understanding, and it was saddening to read.
Over half of HR and DE&I managers are not providing training on sexual orientation, leading to discrimination against LGBTQ+ employees.
A survey by VinciWorks found that 62% of managers witnessed discrimination against LGBTQ+ employees in their organizations. While 25% of managers intended to implement training, only 22% provided annual training. This shows that there is a lack of commitment to addressing discrimination. Additionally, 43% of respondents felt their organizations were not adequately supported.
VinciWorks emphasizes the need for comprehensive training to create a respectful and inclusive workplace. Implementing inclusive training demonstrates support for LGBTQ+ employees and helps build strong reputations centred around diversity and inclusivity.
I believe all organizations should provide comprehensive training on sexual orientation & gender to create a respectful and inclusive workplace. This training should be for all employees and updated regularly to reflect changes in the law and society. Inclusive training demonstrates support for LGBTQ+ employees and helps to create a workplace where everyone feels welcome and valued.
