Embracing Simplicity and Impact in Gender Diversity Consulting

When a hospital in Norwich approached me for help designing an inclusive patient intake form, they struggled with the complexities of gender-neutral language. Yet, after an hour of discussion, a straightforward solution emerged. I asked: "What do you call the people this form is for, regardless of their gender identity?" The answer, of course, was "patients." That realisation led to a breakthrough: replacing pronoun-focused wording with the unifying term "patient." The hospital's success was such that this simplified form was adopted across the entire NHS trust.


This experience taught me that impactful diversity initiatives don't always require grand gestures. Sometimes, the most effective solutions focus on the shared experience that unites us.


As a trans+ gender diversity consultant and speaker, my journey is informed by many experiences, from corporate leadership in technology to being a board chairperson. These roles have honed my understanding of gender dynamics and the importance of inclusion.


My passion for this work predates my transition. As a technology executive and advocate for women's advancement, I learned to challenge gender disparities. That foundation fuels my work in ensuring gender equity extends to LGBTQ+ individuals as well.
